Blackout, Thermal or Standard Lining? Which Should You Choose?

Choosing a beautiful fabric is exciting, but the lining you choose is just as important.

The right lining can completely change how your curtains perform.

Standard lining

Standard lining protects your curtain fabric and helps it hang beautifully.

It's ideal for many living rooms and dining rooms where complete darkness isn't required.

Blackout lining

Blackout lining is popular in bedrooms and nurseries.

It significantly reduces light entering the room, although it's worth remembering that some light will still come around the edges of the curtains.

Interlining

Interlining is an extra layer placed between the curtain fabric and the lining.

It gives curtains a luxurious fullness, improves insulation and helps the fabric drape beautifully.

It's especially popular with linen and high-end fabrics.

They can keep rooms warmer in winter and help reduce heat entering during the summer months.

This makes them a great option for older properties with large windows.

Which one should you choose?

That depends on:

• the room

• how much sunlight the window receives

• whether warmth is important

• your budget

• the overall look you're trying to achieve

Every home is different, which is why I always recommend discussing the options before making a final decision.
